"The Asante Inn is a beautiful small property. The staff were very kind and helpful. They provided good meals for breakfast and dinner (added charge), with many options. The staff gave us a short tour of the property when we checked in. The gardens are beautiful and the onsen was easy to reserve and very nice as well. My only complaint is the pillows are quite hard but that is a personal preference. Overall, great experience. "
"1 minute from incline and train and bus stations. Super friendly staff. Comfortable beds, pillows could be softer. Great place. Breakfast was very nice."
"What an incredible experience while visiting Japan, the authentic dinner & breakfast were outstanding, and the close proximity to Hakone Ropeway, Lake Ashi and breathtaking views of Mt Fuji was a bonus!! "

"It was a really nice experience. It was great that we had to take our shoes off at the entrance it really sets the vibe tha this is a true Ryokan. The room was super clean and well thought out. The facilities overall were excellent as well. Onsen was super clean and the Yukatas that they provided were fun and comfortable to wear during our stay. "
"A beautiful ryokan with exceptional service.
Our family group of six (four adult children) stayed three nights half board in two Japanese Western Style Quad rooms, very large accommodation by Japanese standards with two x two-bed separate sleeping areas in each plus a living area.
Food was delicious, particularly at dinner, with cheap reasonable wine and good beers. Meals are served in private areas commensurate with your group size. Our group of six had a brilliant private room.
The lounge area downstairs is open bar with ramen served each night at 10pm.
Staff were always polite and attentive, we had a wonderful waitress one night called Mochizuki who was a delight.
You are a fairly steep uphill 5 -7 minute walk from Gora station (which we happily did many times) or you can take the cable car from Gora station for one stop and you are outside the front door.
Could not recommend Suiun more highly (this is our third ryokan over the years).
ps: if vegan is your thing, best to stay close to the inner city suburbs of Melbourne or L.A. This is rural, traditional Japan and not for you.

"This property is absolutely incredible. The view alone is so soothing, but the highlight - hands down
— is the hot spring bath (onsen). Please, do not miss it. Yes, you have to go in naked, but it's truly worth getting over any Western discomfort. The experience is surreal.
They alternate floors daily between men and women, so you get to enjoy both the waterfall view and mountain view. And when I say waterfall view, I mean you are literally at the foot of a waterfall — it's breathtaking.
Everything about the bath experience is 5 stars: the variety of hot and cold pools, the traditional Japanese showers, and the gorgeous vanity areas stocked with every skincare product you could ever need.
Guests are also encouraged to wear traditional Japanese robes (yukata) during their stay, which instantly sets the tone and puts you in a peaceful, zen-like state.
Pro tip: Book the dinner buffet in advance along with your room — it's half the price compared to purchasing it on-site. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets were excellent, with a wide and delicious variety.
Guests staying at TenYu also get free access to the amusement park and water park in the adjacent hotel, connected by a tunnel. It's perfect for families! Although there's a full pool and water park, my kids surprisingly preferred the serenity of the hot springs. It was all so enjoyable that our 2-night stay magically extended to 3 and we’re coming back tmw to end our month trip with 3 more days there."
"Lovely staff and wonderfully calming property. Appreciate that it retained it's historical charm and interesting to see the Japanese and western/colonial influence. Private transportation was also provided for any short treks. Very thoughtful. "
"I stayed 2 nights at Gora Kansuiro as a solo traveler, in July and I absolutely loved my stay! The staff were very friendly and professional. I even got to practice my broken japanese with some of them.
The ryoukan is very traditional, which is the charm, and entire reason i loved it so much. It might not be for you if you have bad knees or back, as sitting on tatami mats an sleeping on futons could be uncomfortable for you, just something to consider. My room «Sakura» had a view of the gardens, and a private onsen bath.
I had a dip in my private onsen bath every time I got home from sightseeing, and in the evenings before going to bed, and it really rejuvenates you. Also, I was allowed in public bath with my two full tattoo sleeves, which was a refreshing change from everywhere else i have been so far! The outdoor bath is highly recommended in the late evening when it is dark outside.
Both dinner and breakfast were traditional japanese cuisine. Everything was delicious, and the Wagyu was maybe the best thing I have tasted in my entire life.
The gardens are absolutely stunning, and I highly recommend taking a stroll in the early morning.
The placement is great, near Gora Station and the ropeway.
I can not recommend this place enough, and might come back here next time i visit Hakone.
