"We found The Big Island Rereat to be just as good as the pictures! It was easy to find right off Ali'i drive. Check in and out were both very easy. We stayed in the Ocean View room which was just as advertised. There is no AC which is in the room description so there was no surprise. "Great little hotel right on the water. Manager Jim was fantastic, friendly, and attentive. Fairly close to good restaurants. Parking is very small and tight, if you have a mid size or larger vehicle, good luck parking here. You will have to park across the strret. Pool was clean. Water pressure is low. "The property is nicely located within walking distance of dining and shopping. The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. The ocean side of the building had a distant view of the ocean, but directly below the balcony were ugly storage containers and large waste bin. "This was the perfect location for our stay. We were a 1 mile drive from Magic Sands Beach and 1 mile drive to local shopping, dinning and entertainment! While we chose to drive everywhere, the location is totally walkable to all the attractions. Also, before booking I read reviews, and apparently other condos do not have AC. This one DOES have AC. "While the condo was in an ideal location in Kona, the amenities at the property were less than what I expected. The shower and bathroom sink were filthy. There were several hairs in the shower the day we arrived and what looked like toothpaste in the bathroom sink. The bathroom mirror was also dirty, with water spots all over it. "The resort is beautiful on the ocean. The staff are fantastic and friendly. Originally we booked a “resort view” which was actually a parking lot view. Very disappointing. We talked to the staff and they confirmed that resort view is a view of the parking lot. We upgraded to an ocean view and couldn’t be happier. I only wish it was clear when booking what we were getting when we reserved a “resort view”. "
