"The Takinoyu Hotel was superb! It was larger than I thought and very luxurious feeling. We booked one of their more traditional rooms which was very spaceous and the view of the garden was lovely. We didn't have time to visit their baths but they looked very nice. The staff were great also, very friendly and helpful! Overall excellent hotel, would definitely stay here again! "

"The breakfast is truly an amazing value!! Such an abundance of healthy, hearty food for 500 yen. The bath is quite nice! The lobby and lounge areas are super swanky, too! The single-person room was good enough for me! A complementary snack and teabags, with a hot water pot and a pitcher of ice water provided. Very polite and kind staff at checkin, breakfast, and checkout. They also held my luggage for the day after checkout."

"We stayed here for a week while visiting our daughter who lived nearby. The staff were friendly, and polite. No problem with communication even though I do not speak Japanese. I really enjoyed their breakfast buffet. The view of the mountains from the room can't be beat. I agree with one review that said the toilet in the reception is the best toilet I have been to in Japan, as crazy as that may sound. Highly recommend!"

"Even with our limited Japanese skills, the staff understood and communicated with us with great ease. Everyone was extremely nice, polite and pleasant. The breakfast and dinner menus were copious, delicious and made with local ingredients. Even a simple tomato could shine with the incredible skills of the chef. "Staff are very polite and helpful. Best part is the hotel is only 5 mins from JR Yamagata station, very convenient. There is also a bus terminal at the train station with buses to various attractions like Zao onsen etc. Only down part is the pillow was very flat, hence not comfortable to sleep on."
