"What an incredible gem! We had a wonderful and memorable experience. Luggage drop off before check-in and then check-in itself was seamless (we arrived early and we just followed the instructions at the front entrance to label our bags and place inside the doors, and when we came back the bags were already in our room). Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were able to select our onsen times (one evening and one morning bath) at check-in and as they had availability, we were lucky and were able to do a third one! The facilities themselves are great! All the onsens were fantastic, and it's nice they are all private. Highly recommend the traditional dinner option, it was delicious, well worth it, and a highlight of our trip. The breakfast was lovely. Definitely our favourite stay and would love to come back again! P.s- if getting off at Gora station, yep that is one steep hill to climb to the ryokan! We had carry-on size backpacks and I'm still happy we took the cable car two stops further as per the instructions we received from the ryokan even though it was busy and a bit of a wait (or with more luggage the taxi is likely we'll worth it. It's really not that far, 15ish min, but quite the hill!). The ryokan was also very prompt in responding to my messages prior to arrival, and that was much appreciated. "The location right in front of the Yokohama Bay gave me so much pleasure that I stayed in the room for extra time enjoying the view from the room. It is so close to most of the landmarks, I highly recommend this hotel."

"The lighting around the hotel area isn't that great out on the streets after 11pm... As usual, the spa area can be kept cleaner and not full of hair and stuff around. Could make the spa smell nicer would be great. The pay parking machines weren't working well... Couldn't pay with my credit card. So annoying. Needs to be upgraded or fixed. Allow other methods of payment would be nice. Elevator service needs to improve. Always crowded and busy. "

"I loved my stay at Hakone Airu. It was peaceful, quiet and the staff were able to speak English. The facility was very tourist friendly. I absolutely loved the private onsen and being able to dip in and out whenever we liked. The lounge space next to the private onsen is such a bonus. The bathroom and shower were very clean as well. The only slight discomfort was the fact the shower is exposed to the outside so can be very cold when you initially step in the shower during winter time. "
