"Our stay here was definitely the highpoint of our trip. Hida Takayama is my favorite place in Japan. Our stay here made it even better. "The owners and staff were very warm and welcoming. However, the structure was old and a little tired looking. Our sleeping room only had one electrical outlet with a lamp plugged into it. This made charging our iPhones and tablets difficult. Also, the one larger onsen was never available during our 4 day stay. Perhaps a sign up sheet with a 45 minute time slot could help make the onsen available to more visitors. On the positive side, the ryokan was well located a short distance from the train...

"Very good experience, nice comfortable beds, very spacious room with kitchen and laundry machine. It was definitely very convenient to have washing/drying machine in the bedroom, laundry detergent was provided, awesome! Over all very good, place is not fancy but it has everything you need. It was clean but cleaning needs improvement in some areas, specially shower door."

"The Machiya Hotel was one of our favorite places to stay during our trip. We appreciated the kindness of the staff and the homey feel of the common areas. The rooms here modern, well designed and had everything we needed. It was so nice to be able to quietly sip tea and the provided sweets after a long day of exploring. "Very close to the train station. Rather new hotel with very nice setup. The rooms are bigger than maybe what you find in other bigger cities in the rest of the country. Nice onsen which is not too busy when i visit."

"Loved this hotel! Room was bigger than expected (Deluxe Hollywood Room) and was very clean. Check-in/out was easy with friendly and professional staff available to assist. Breakfast had a good variety of food. Main attractions were within walking distance (10-20 mins walk). Public transportation nearby (10 mins walk). Wish we stayed longer than one night for greater use of the facilities. Would definitely stay here again. "
