A much-loved destination for families for over a quarter of a century, Scitech is home to a planetarium, hands-on exhibits, plays and puppet shows and much more. With fun for all the family, children in particular enjoy the exhibits on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Start off at the Up, Down and Around exhibit where you’ll see the principles of motion and momentum on display. Youngsters can learn about kinetic energy by observing levers, pulleys and gravity in action, sending balls around tracks and loops on the Kinetic Contraption.
Head for the Energy Zone where kids can learn about electricity and keeping safe with it. In the Science Fiction, Science Future section meanwhile you can find out more about the technology that is changing the world as we speak. Play Mindball, build a cyborg, and even experience augmented reality while you’re in there.
In the Think Tank, you can learn all about the work of medical researchers and their quests to find cures for serious diseases all over the world. Then head for the Sonic Science section where you can learn about how your ears work and even find out what life would be life without sound.
If you’re coming with younger children make sure you take them to Discoverland, a section designed for kids under seven years of age. In there they can dress up, watch the fish swimming in the aquarium or play with mirrors and bubbles. You can see a show at the Science or Puppet theatres, or head to the in-house planetarium Horizon to observe the beauty and wonder of the solar system. End up at the Discovery Shop and browse through the souvenirs and gifts on offer, including an array of educational items.
Scitech is located only 1.6 kilometres to the west of central Perth, and can be reached on foot, by car or by train. Open every day through the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, your entry includes all the shows and a session in the planetarium.
