Plaza Mijares is the lively and picturesque central square of San José del Cabo and a great place to begin your tour of the city. Decorated with trees, monuments and striking buildings, the plaza is a setting for cultural events such as concerts and dance performances. An elegant bandstand occupies the center of the square. Climb the steps and then watch the action unfold before you while being sheltered from the hot sun. A huge Mexican flag is raised at the flagpole every day.
On the east side of the square is the Jardin de los Cabeños Ilustres, which is a memorial to notable citizens of Los Cabos. It features seven busts, including that of the Mexican military hero José Antonio Mijares.

Plaza Mijares is a short walk from other major city attractions such as the San José del Cabo Art District. The Zona Hotelera is 1.9 miles (3 kilometers) to the south. Drivers can park for free on the streets of the historic district. Connecting with the square is Calle Boulevard Antonio Mijares, another good option for dining and shopping.
