Nicely located, about 5 minutes from a tube station and next to the park. Hotel looks lovely from outside but inside needs renovation. Single room size of a postage stamp. Staff took ages to check out, quibbling over alleged one pound use of mini-bar. Breakfast: restaurant overwhelmed by number of guests.
Amazing location, quiet and comfortable, definitly stay again
Spacious room. Helpful and friendly Staff. They gave us early check in and were very helpful. Very close to Lancaster Gate Tube Stop. Hyde Park very close to Hotel. Beautiful Park for walking and enjoying nature. Bed was very comfortable. The bathrooms were spacious and plenty of hot water and good pressure. We enjoyed the amenities, for example, kettle, China Tea pot, tea bags and cookies.
This was an excellent hotel. The family room provided an additional bed and was adequate for the 4 of us (with 2 small children). It was in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to the Hyde Park, and very close to both the subway station and the bus stop. It is generally close to all main London attractions.
I would recommend the Thistle Landcaster Gate as a good place to stay. The pluses are that the location on Hyde Park is very good, the surrounding neighborhood is nice, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and quite well maintained. The only drawback was that both times we stayed there on this trip, neither of the hotel safes was working. The hotel definitely needs to install new safes with electronic keypads.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that this hotel was so nice for the cost. It was very well kept and clean. The shower was great - good water pressure AND there were heated towel racks! Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back.
Toilet plumbing was lacking as well as shower water pressure inconsistent. Otherwise a good value for money. Rooms reasonably spacious

A fine hotel
The room was comfortable and found the staff to be friendly and responsive to any requests, helpful with information on local attractions, getting around London. Plumbing is uneven which may be typical for hotels, no fan to vent the bathroom. It was nice to have windows to open as it was warm at times at night. The only question regarding cleanliness is that it became obvious that the same teacups were recycled in our room(we had a crack in the one cup)and hope they were more than just rinsed. They also do not use sheets, but comforter for cover and wonder how they are cleaned. We had a beautiful view over Kensington Gardens.
Got a room without any curtains, which faced an emergency escape stair which was frequently used by the staff. When I complained about it, they were surprised there were no curtains and they would fix it, when i came back late that evening there were still no curtains.
The hotel is an older building, but nicely maintained. Our room had a view of Kensington Garden, but Bayswater Road can be very busy and noisy. We liked that there were several Underground stations nearby (within 3-4 blocks). Many small and interesting restuarants within a few blocks, as well. We would definitely stay there again. It's not luxurious, but more than adequate.
We stayed two nights here in mid-Mar 2005; the beds were extremely comfortable; the heater worked exceptionally well; the view from our balcony was beautiful Hyde Park; the Lancaster Gate tube station was a scant 3 blocks away; the staff was incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and timely; We were very pleased with our accommodations and the service we received. Highly recommend!!

OK for the price
This hotel was a little cheaper than most of the others I considered. I've stayed there twice. We had to open the window because our floor (4th) was so hot. The plumbing is a little inconsistent. The location is OK - five minutes' walk to Queensway or Lancaster Gate.
