Jungle Island is an interactive zoo park on Miami’s scenic Watson Island. Exciting animal trails and educational presentations make Jungle Island a wonderful destination for families. Meet colourful parrots and see magnificent birds from around the world. Visit slithering snakes, see cheeky lemurs swinging from the trees, watch a show at the Jungle Theatre and enjoy the lush Florida ecosystem of the Everglades Habitat.
The original park opened as Parrot Jungle in 1936 on lush hammock land dotted with coral rock. It was a popular destination for visitors and locals wanting to learn about the attraction’s magnificent birds and indigenous plants. The destination moved to a new bay-front location on Watson Island in 2003. This location has a view out over Biscayne Bay to South Beach.
Catch one of Jungle Island’s thrilling animal shows, performed daily in different locations across the park. Stunning bird species are on display at the Winged Wonders show in the Parrot Bowl. Watch Mama Cass, the 6-feet-tall (1.8-metre) cassowary, eat an apple from her trainer’s hand.
See a fantastic show featuring a star cast of tigers, black panthers, lynx and spotted leopards at the Jungle Theatre. You’ll also see cute cubs, chimpanzees and lemurs, as well as other mischievous primates. Visit Hercules, the liger, a cross between a male lion and a tigress. Stop by the Serpentarium to enjoy a presentation with fascinating reptiles, including turtles and boa constrictors.
Relax at the Lakeside Café or enjoy the shade beneath the pavilions. During summer, the park’s private beach, La Playa, is the perfect place to relax. Pick up a souvenir at the Jungle Treasures Gift Shop or let the kids go wild in the Jungle Island Playground.
Jungle Island is located on Watson Island, between downtown Miami and South Beach. Take a bus or drive and pay to park in the on-site garage. The park is open every day and admission fees apply. Children receive discounted admission.
