the VERY loud smoke alarm randomly went of at 9 in the morning and took 20 minutes to be turned off was not a nice way to be woken up and get given a banging headache, cheers x

Check in easy - though too many contacts. Nice room, but very small. All amenities, but considering quiet hours 11pm-7am did not happen. Room above very noisy - arrived late and loud at 4.30am. Bed definitely not memory foam (as advertised) - not comfortable - creaking and old.

To be honest, I had a load of misgivings about this place, because I only read the reviews AFTER I booked and paid for it! The mixture of 2-stars and 5-stars made it tricky to know what to expect, and there was a lot of trepidation when we rocked up to the gaff. Turns out it was fine. The Chekin website they encourage you to use was an absolute dumpster fire, but thankfully not necessary. We had calls prior to our visit reassuring us that it'd be fine and had an email on the day showing us the codes for the front door and the room, and they all worked. As for the room? Very obviously not the Ritz, but we weren't paying Ritz money and expectations were in line with that. Decor, skirting boards and whatnot a lil bit tired, but hey ho. Important stuff: It was clean. The bed was comfy. Tea, coffee, kettle all provided (including Biscoffs, which I have only just remembered I didn't scoff... DOH) Bathroom similarly clean, shower worked well and shampoo etc provided. We had an absolute blast in Kemp Town and slept well afterwards. For the money, and it wasn't a lot, absolutely no complaints and will definitely stay there again on our next visit.

A fire alarm went off at 07:00 in the morning and wasn't shut off until more than an hour later. Staff on the phone didn't seem to understand that there wasn't a proper keypad on the fire alarm box, and just hung up on me.
