"First time at this property, 5th time in Mexico and 2nd time at a Riu Resort (Ocho Rios). The property was beautiful, well laid out and maintained. It was spotless! Check-in was easy and our rooms were ready a couple hours early. The rooms were fresh, clean, no smells and the air conditioning worked perfectly. There is a tub in the middle of the room; weird but it made for a good clothes hanger! The beach and pool were perfect. Chair hogs around the pool but plenty of loungers on the beach....

" It was very refreshing to be at a small resort among the giants. The dining is limited and although there was a kids club, there were no kids for my kiddo to play with. We were there for 10 days and by the end we felt like we were over staying our welcome with the service staff. "

"Good size for us, you were able to get to know the staff. This is not a gigantic facility which we liked. The staff were great, friendly, helpful, very attentive, specifically the service staff and activities staff, specifically Eric. "My family of 5 stayed at this Riu in December of 2020 and again in December 2024. We love that the resort is small enough that walking from our room to the beach to restaurants for meals isn’t a long task, yet the resort is big enough to feel luxurious. "We go to the Mexico all inclusive every winter. Good things in Viva Maya: The beach and sea are wonderful! No waves, no seaweed, no dip water, no stones, white sand, very safe swimming. "Smaller resort than what we're used but we liked it very much. It is located in a closed off area of Playa del Carmen making it less accessible and safer. They offered an all day long Kids Club which was a big plus for both parents and kids who had various fun and entertaining activities. Recommended. "

"Resort is super close ( 3-5 min walk) to 5th street where all the shopping, Dining and nightlife is. You don’t need a car if you sat in this resort cause you are that close. Then there is a beach right on the resort and it’s beautiful. "
