"Comfortable, firm beds and pillows. Good breakfast buffet with both western and Japanese options. There are free snacks and coffee in the lounge area, and you have an option to get a light early afternoon meal as well. Hotel is next to a grocery store, where we easily picked up anything else we needed. Staff are courteous and very helpful. Our 8-year-old loved the hotel. We would stay there again."

"Overall great stay at Genji that met expectations. I'd recommend it, though think there are likely equal or better alternatives in Kyoto. We stayed here for 1 night as part of a 2 week honeymoon trip. Room: overall very good. Great shower and bath. Spacious. Nice mix of modern and traditional design. "The hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet. It's in a good location near to shops, restaurants and bars as well as transport. Check in is 2 minutes away from where the rooms are but this is not a problem. Two small issues for us were: 1 We emailed the hotel about dropping bags before check in. The emails were not answered. When we called the number they gave us it was not answered. It was disappointing. 2 There was an unpleasant smell coming from the washing machine."

"We enjoyed our stay very much. It is one or two blocks to the bus stop, but is convenient to walk to Pontocho and shopping as well as Gion across the Kamo River. The Fresco grocery store was next door. The room had a nice kitchen and a spacious table for dining. The room was very large and even had a set of bunk beds which we didn’t need. The bed was firm but comfortable. It was in good a quiet location but close to many sites and to the bus system. "

"The charm of the old ryokan feel and style was so beautiful and quaint! My daughters loved it as their favorite place to stay. The staff was superb! We felt as if the staff and place was like visiting a relative. Loves the library upstairs and the breakfast being offered in our room. Food was superb! Area was so nice to walk everywhere. "This was a great stay. Staff were so helpful and helped us book taxis. The rooms were so clean and I loved the look which was a more traditional style but still very modern which is exactly what we wanted in Kyoto. The location is so convenient to the subway and many bus routes. We walked from Kyoto main station with our bags. We would stay again! "

Loved how quiet it was here and Kevin went above and beyond to make sure guests felt welcome and comfortable. Also the cedar bath felt so luxurious. We'd definitely stay here again in Kyoto! "

"We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Marufukuro. A real gem of a boutique hotel. Attentive service, gorgeous bar, close to a metro stop and beautiful rooms. "The rooms are large for Japanese hotels. When I requested a quiet room, it was changed immediately. Loved the bar for informal dinners. Close to bus and subway. Good shopping within easy walk. Friendly staff. Excellent French bakery next door."
