Be careful to "validate" your ticket before you travel. Although it is an easy mistake not to, the inspectors will charge you 50 euros per person, as if you were guilty of criminal behaviour, however preposterous that appears. Don't ruin your holiday

Need to be willing to walk or take water transportation. No car transportation! Also used iPhone maps to navigate when we had a certain destination or got lost. Sometimes the signal wasn't good so had to walk to a more open space. Great place!

It really is like you see on film, except that, even in March, there are too many extras. There is no city like it, and there is just so much to see and do. Try to explore and find the more unusual, eg I'd definitely recommend the Palazzo Fortuny!

It is super busy. Just be mentally prepared for it. If you are going in high season or carnival consider purchasing skip the line tickets for the attractions as the lines can go on for miles! Also for some of the nice restaurants make reservation.

The city vibe is unique. It is great to walk and enjoy the beauty of its buildings, bridges, and canals. The restaurants are delicious, and the people are nice. We had a wonderful dinner at Fanal de la Codega and delicious pastries at Rosa Salva

Venice was, quite simply, like nowhere else we have stayed before. It feels magical and well worth a visit. Be ready to walk, be ready to climb stairs (lots of them as there are lots of bridges). Take a gondola, go to the theatre - do it right :)

We love Venice. It's like visiting another world. People complain about crowds, but that's not a big deal as long as you plan ahead. Arrange for tickets and tours before you arrive. Read about how to get around on the vaparettos. It's easy.

busy city. we went in January that supposedly is the off-season period and it was till really busy. I would not want to be there during high season periods and events. ferry system is reasonable priced and easy to use, we did the 48 hours pass

"We traveled as a family and had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Principe. The location is excellent—less than a 5-minute walk from the Santa Lucia train station, which was very convenient when arriving and departing the city.
We had two rooms. Although they didn’t have a canal view, they were bright, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. One day, we did notice a faint onion smell when opening the window, but it was a one-time occurrence and didn’t impact our overall experience.
Breakfast was one of the highlights: very complete and varied, with fresh fruit, real-tasting eggs (not the artificial kind!), a nice assortment of breads, and a good selection of drinks. It was also included in our reservation made through Hotels.com, which was a great plus.
The hotel has direct access to the canal, which allowed us to enjoy beautiful views and experience a traditional Venetian moment, with gondolas passing right in front of us.
While main attractions like St. Mark’s Square are about a 40-minute walk away, the walk itself is enjoyable and a great way to explore Venice’s charming streets.
All in all, a very good option for staying in Venice, especially if you’re arriving by train and traveling with family."
