Spend a few hours or an entire day at Urayasushi Park when visiting the city of Urayasu. Urayasushi Park is the perfect antidote to the fast-paced entertainment of the city’s Disney resort. Join the Tokyo locals who come to enjoy well-kept lawns that lend themselves to relaxation and recreational activities. Appreciate excellent sunset viewing opportunities and a spectacular fireworks display.
Paths dividing the park into several different areas can be traversed either on foot or by bike. Facing the bay is an 8.6-acre (3.5-hectare) open space popular among visitors who come to fly kites or play sports, such as soccer and volleyball. Bring your own food and set up a picnic on the green lawn accompanied by sea views.
Children in the group will have hours of fun at the park’s playground. It features a wooden climbing frame with rope ladders and log stairs plus benches for parents to observe the action in comfort. Adjacent is a designated day camp area, where barbecuing is permitted. You can pitch a tent or gazebo. Remember to clean up when you leave and take your trash with you.
Walk to the southwestern corner of the park and spot varied trees and pond-dwelling animals at a small nature preserve. Find shade from the sun beneath a nearby pergola and feel the cool sea breeze on your face. Leave the park momentarily to stroll along the water’s edge and observe fishermen waiting patiently for a catch.
Large crowds gather at the park in late July for an annual fireworks display. Marvel as 6,500 fireworks are set off, turning the sea and sky of Urayasu into an elaborate spectacle of bright colors. The park is also an excellent vantage point for watching the nightly fireworks of Tokyo Disneyland amusement park.
Reach Urayasushi Park by catching a train to Shin-Urayasu Station and then taking a bus or walking for 30 minutes. There is a fee to use the day camping area. Drivers can use the park’s two free car parks
