"Hotel was very quiet with not many guests which i was normal for this time of year. Bar food was good but im not sure the eaton mess was worth the money, a small glass filled with cream and some small pieces of meringue topped with 1 strawberry...could do better. "Great location, right in the town centre. Very modern and clean. Easy to control the temperature of the room. Downside: low shower pressure and no parking. A council car park is a minute walk away which is fine but the app didn't work and I had to go and pay again after 6pm in order to pay for the morning. "

"Building very large and very old so the upkeep is going to be a challenge. Couldn't turn the heating down or off in the bathroom so it was nuclear hot in the room when we entered. Had to sleep with the old sash window open. Stayed in room 52 which had no lift access, massive bathroom, ceilings really high, not many power sockets for charging your electricals, TV off to the side of the bed in front of the window which made shutting curtains a challenge. "Corridors & hotel room tired e.g. torn wallpaper, scuffed table. Receptionist accused me of not paying for dinner the night before where I had to provide a credit card statement as proof of payment as apparently the till receipt wasn’t suffice & the Waiter didn’t provide a pdq receipt. "All areas were spotless and well maintained. Only negative was lack of heating in the bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff, good food in the pub and blue badge parking near reception made this a great place for an overnight stay. Would definitely come again."

"Just stayed one night as we had a morning flight from Manchester airport. Comfortable room, dined in the hotel as the weather was awful and the meal was fine, breakfast was a full buffet and was excellent. Easy to get to the airport and there is a handy gas/petrol station with only a slight detour before returning the rental car. Free parking too which was good."
