Most of the shops were closed when we went. But enjoyed heights of Abraham. The tram museum and the aquarium sea world I think it was called

Rowsley is situated between Matlock and Bakewell Two great little towns. Good shops, park. Bakewell nearby. So good they named a tart after it. (Bakewell tart) Chatsworth House a stones throw away. Great location.

Matlock is a good place to stay if exploring the local area. There are many local restaurants and cafes and we can definitely recommend Zinc Cafe & The Remarkable Hare, Spice and the Red Lion for evening meals.

What is there not to like about Matlock Bath? In all the times we have been there we have seen no anti social behaviour at all.
"The room is immaculate, there are nice touches like ground coffee and a french press, first time I have had this even in £500+ a night rooms. There is plenty of free parking on the street outside.
The only thing to be mindful of is that there is a big step both into the room and the bathroom for those with reduced mobility like myself - this is in addition to the 6 steps i was aware of. There is no aircon or fan so we opened the bedroom and bathroom windows and it was fine. Old school air con!
We couldn't connect to the TV with our phones for netflix etc, however in the end we had a quiet night, which was much more relaxing and enjoyable. So this is not a bad thing, switch off, relax and reconnect. Enjoy a quiet country walk instead or chat to your loved one!
I highly recommend the local pubs, especially the Barley Mow but please book if you want one of their amazing pies. Real cider to die for!
Breakfast is between 8am and 11am (checkout time) and this is served in the tea rooms below. There is a good menu and you can get a full english (both vegan and non), or granola if you prefer. Plenty of teas or coffees to choose from. I had the small breakfast plus black pudding and it was more than sufficient, the full breakfast would set you up for a full day's walking without any problem. Staff were very friendly and coffee nice and strong. Having reserved tables was also a bonus.
Overall, I would recommend."
"This Grade 2 hotel, is an excellent example of how to do things right. Even lack of staff did not stop the owner from providing an excellent service. Would recommend anytime and will definitely stop again sometime. "
