The Floating Garden Observatory connects the two high-rise towers of the Umeda Sky Building, creating a sky-high platform with panoramic views of Osaka and surrounds. The architectural feat is a remarkable sight in Osaka’s cityscape and the views that it presents are unparalleled. Feel the wind in your hair as you look out over the city from this rooftop observation platform and admire the collage of buildings that crowd by the banks of the Yodo River.
The view from the Floating Garden Observatory is astounding, but the journey to the top is half the fun. As you enter the Umeda Sky Building, look up between the two towers and check out the observation platform from below. The platform has a circular hole in its center, so you can see straight through to the sky above. Ride the elevator to the tower’s 39th floor. From here, step on to the escalator that will transport you into the Floating Garden Observatory on the 40th floor. Moving upward through an impressive tunnel of glass, the escalator presents a sneak peek of the magnificent panorama you are about to encounter.
Step out into the Floating Garden Observatory and admire the sweeping views from inside the platform. Through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows you’ll see Osaka’s captivating cityscape with its high-rise buildings and canals. Look out toward the Yodo River to see the mighty waterway and its series of bridges. The platform’s circular design means you can also peer between the two buildings to the streets below. If weather permits and you don’t mind heights, make your way up to the rooftop level. From here, you can experience a spectacular panorama from the open-air terrace. On a clear day, look for mountains and Awaji Island in the distance.
Have a drink or a meal with lovely views at the Chinese restaurant or café on the 39th floor. Visit in the evening to see twinkling city lights from the bar.
