Figueira Beach is a stretch of sand known for its crystal clear water and picturesque views. Flanked by a wall of tropical vegetation, the beach lies at the bottom of cliffs that can be traversed via a set of steps. Let your children play on the sand and frolic in the calm water of the Atlantic Ocean.
Arrive at the clifftop and snap photos of the panoramic vista of the water and the ocean below, peppered with white boats on the water and umbrellas in the sand. Climb down the steps to reach the beach, which is rarely crowded. It is fairly secluded, without food shacks or vendors. Make sure to bring enough water, snacks and other necessities to last your time here. Enjoy the utter tranquility, as you find a spot on the beach to sunbathe.
Read a book in the shade of a palm tree and cool down with a refreshing swim in the water. Bring snorkeling gear for a closer look at the brightly colored fish in the water. Stay at the beach until sunset to see the moody shades of red take over the sky. You can stay overnight at a hotel or inn in the area. Rent a kayak or surfboard from your hotel to take out on the ocean.
Note that the staircase offering access to the beach is long, resulting in a fairly tough ascent at the end of the day. Leave your car in the street parking spots at the top. The beach is open at all times and free to access.
