"Overall everything was good, our only issue was after being there for a few days we noticed the toaster was full of crumbs, obviously not been emptied for quite some time, and the oven tray had not been cleaned after it had been used. We hadn’t met the owner, so decided it was easier just to clean them both before using them. On the hole, everything else was excellent. "My two night stay gave me a very comfortable room, with a well equipped ensuite bathroom. Breakfast was self service, with hot food being ordered at the bar. Staff were very attentive during my stay and I would definitely recommend staying here."

"This is a lovely little place with a great pub with really friendly staff and great food. Excellent dog walk on the other side of the road. The room has a fridge microwave kettle and toaster. The owner was a bit stressed about the shower having failed but they had called a plumber and all was fixed with no problems and lots of apologies. Would recommend!!"

"Beautiful room, very friendly hosts. Comfortable bed. Biscuits and chocolates in the room were a nice surprise. Lovely breakfast. Probably only downside was it wasn't that warm, but there was a plug-in heater in the bedroom. "

"Lovely country pub in good location for local tourist sites with friendly and attentive staff. Stayed for one night whilst visiting Beamish Living Museum, nice room, friendly bar downstairs and full cooked breakfast available in the morning. Will be happy to return and would recommend to others."

"Fabulous country Hotel down a twisty lane. Very welcoming Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely room comfortable bed. "It’s a beautiful cottage located in a quiet neighbourhood. Fully stoked with all the necessary things for a couple or single person. Suitable for business/work trip accommodation as there is good Wi-Fi and affordable unlike hotels in Durham which are twice expensive or even more. John communicated very well with me prior to my arrival and made sure the heating was on as I arrived around midnight. Clean house, lovely white linen and good pillows. The mattress was perfect for my sleep too. Kitchen was stoked with milk (although I don’t drink milk) it was a nice gesture and a posh coffee machine 👌😊. There is a pub right next door as well with great food. I would recommend this place to anyone on a business/ work trip or a quick stop by in Durham. "

"We picked a very busy day to need a bed in Durham as it was the university open weekend. La Spada was reasonably priced & good enough, despite quite a few adverse reviews. The hotel is not set up to take guests after 10pm, a fact not highlighted when we booked at 11.30pm & then tried to get in. Fortunately we were admitted. There was no breakfast service."
