Relax in this tiny coastal village. Explore the shores and countryside, which have been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Visit Crackington Haven and enjoy spectacular views of the Cornish coast and countryside. Walk the hills and spot birds, wildlife and wild flowers. Find historic buildings, such as churches and farms. Relax on the beaches and look for rare geological formations.

Crackington Haven began as a small harbor, exporting slate from local quarries and importing limestone and coal. The village was marked for development in 1836, with plans drawn to transform the area into a large harbor called Port Victoria. It escaped industrialization, however, and still remains an unspoiled beauty spot. Visit to see one of Cornwall’s oldest and prettiest villages.

Explore the old stone and slate farmhouse of Trevigue, which dates from the 16th century. The farm is still in operation today and has won awards for conservation. It also offers cottages as vacation homes and runs a restaurant serving seasonal local dishes.

Stroll along the cliffs and countryside to watch for local wildlife. See several species of bird here, including the linnet, whitethroat, meadow pipet and skylark. There are also larger birds, including birds of prey such as the kestrel. Look out over the sea and you might spot Atlantic gray seals, bottle-nose dolphins and even basking sharks.

Spot geological wonders in the cliffs. The Crackington Formation was named for the area, fractured shale which has been contorted over millions of years. See zigzag folds and faults in rock formations made from black shale, sandstone and quartz veins.

Crackington Haven is just a short drive from Bude. The beaches have lifeguard protection during the summer months, which is the best time to enjoy them. Visit during the spring for the wild flowers. Accommodations are mostly limited to cottage rentals. Find additional options in Bude itself.
