The Central Jakarta District in Jakarta, Indonesia is the political and administrative centre of Indonesia. Though Central Jakarta occupies the smallest area compared to the other four districts that make up Jakarta, it has a large number of branded hotel chains, shopping, and impressive landmarks.

A well-known landmark in Central Jakarta District is the Arjuna Wijaya. It depicts the mythical Hindu Gods, Arjuna and Krishna, astride a horse chariot from the Mahabharata epic. You might also want to visit the National Monument. It has a solid gold shaped flame at the top of the obelisk created to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day.

Museums in Central Jakarta District include the National Museum showcasing the rich history of Indonesia from the Hindu Era, Dutch colonization, and Indonesia's independence. The Proclamation Museum is located in the spot where officials signed the Declaration of Independence.

Central Jakarta District is rich in typical authentic Indonesian cuisine and culinary dining experiences. A recommended restaurant is the Bengawan Solo Restaurant. Shopping in Central Jakarta District includes the main shopping malls of Senayan City and Grand Indonesia for branded and local boutique products. However, Surabaya Street is an unusual flea market famous for antiques and souvenirs. The Pasar Tanah Abang is a great place to shop for garments, textiles ,and souvenirs. This is a sprawling complex of more than 20,000 shops dealing in retail and wholesale selling.

"The Mandarin is an excellent hotel. I first stayed here 37 years ago. It was wonderful then and the renovated bigger rooms were even better than the first time I stayed. The Mandarin is convenient to many malls and shops as well as excellent transport options. Highly recommended."
