However we did do two excursions with a local tour operator and they picked us up from a nearby hotel. There's ample free parking on site which is great. The hotel facilities are basic but all work. The staff were very friendly, the rooms were a pretty decent size and the hotel manager was always available to recommend excursions/restaurants. The location was also incredibly convenient- we were right next to a bus stop which took us to Heraklion city/airport and there are plenty of car rental places within arms reach if you want to go on longer excursions.
