Lie back and relax on the soft sands of Amadores Beach or swim in the calm, clear water. Watch boats move through the harbour and enjoy delicious fresh fish at one of the excellent beachfront restaurants.
Unlike many of Gran Canaria’s beaches, Amadores is protected from most of the winds and swells that hit the island. This, combined with the ban on loud music and boisterous beach games, makes Playa de Amadores one of the island’s most tranquil places to relax by the sea. At 2,600 feet (800 metres) long, it never gets overcrowded. Here, find all the facilities you need for a relaxing day at the beach.
Lie your towel on the sand and spend the morning reading or dozing. The only sounds you will hear are birds twittering and tiny waves lapping on the sand. If you get hot, the ocean is the perfect temperature for a refreshing swim. Due to its shelter, the water here is very safe for swimming and wonderfully clear. Put on a snorkel and go in search of schools of colourful fish.
Stroll along the curved bay to the pretty harbour. Admire lavish yachts bobbing gently up and down on their moorings or gaze out to the horizon to spot fishing boats returning from a morning at sea. From the beach, you can see Mount Teide on the island of Tenerife on a clear day. After you finish sunning and swimming, head to one of the bars that back onto the sand. Enjoy a cold beer or a cocktail while you watch the sun set behind the mountain. Make your way from here to the nearby restaurants that serve delicious tapas and locally caught seafood throughout the evening.
In 2004 Amadores Beach was awarded Blue Flag Status for high standards in water quality and safety. Facilities are excellent, with fresh water showers on the beach and sun lounge chairs available to rent for a small fee. Stay in one of the luxurious beachfront hotels here or catch one of the regular buses that serve Amadores Beach from most nearby resort towns.
