Relax with other vacationers on Torre Abbey Sands, Torquay’s main beach. Try windsurfing on the waves or rent watercraft such as paddleboats and kayaks. Enjoy the surrounding parkland or take a short walk to one of Torquay’s other attractions.
Visit in the summer to join other tourists relaxing in the sun. Rent a deckchair or stretch out on a towel and work on your tan. See the creations of local “sand artists” and try making your own sculptures, even if you have to use a bucket and spade. Cool off with a swim in the sea. This beach has lifeguard supervision in the summer. Try the numerous watersports popular here, with space reserved for windsurfers, kayakers and bodyboarders.
Visit in the winter when the beach is much quieter, perfect for a walk along the windswept sands or the promenade. New developments along the waterfront give you lots of choices for coffee shops, cafés and restaurants.
Take a break from the beach and visit one of the other nearby attractions, all just a short walk away. Stroll along Princess Pier or the Rock Walk or explore the Italian Sunken Gardens. Find Abbey Meadows across the road from Torre Abbey Sand, which is always popular with beachgoers. Walk through the parks and feed ducks in the ponds. Try bowling, tennis and miniature golf or get lunch at one of the traditional fish and chips shops.
Torre Abbey Sands is just a short distance from Torquay town center. Park nearby or take a bus, which will stop right at the entrance to the beach. The local train station is also just a short walk away. The beach is open to the public all year, but far more popular with tourists in the summer months. Find many facilities here, including restrooms, first aid and lost child centers and deckchair rental. The beach has excellent disabled access. Beach wheelchair rental is also available.
