See farmyard animals, battle with pirates and make friends with Humpty Dumpty at Storybook Gardens. The 20-acre (8-hectare) attraction is designed for young families and is based around popular storybooks and fairytales. Children will love the storytellers and other performers who bring their favourite stories to life.
On your way in, listen to the two topiary giraffes reading a giant storybook. Then let your children explore the many rides and attractions. Go to the castle for games, storybook characters and the wishing well. Walk through the Enchanted Forest of oak trees to the Ferris wheel and large slide. Be sure not to miss the small pond hidden among the trees. Here you can view herons, turtles and many colourful fish. Among the other wildlife you may see are rabbits and birds of prey.
At Pirates Island, children can climb aboard a pirate ship, scale a climbing wall and play on slides and rope ladders. There is also a pirate themed play area for toddlers. Observe goats, sheep, chickens, ducks and miniature donkeys at Old McDonald's Farm.
In the summer months, cool down in the water park. Ground sprayers, pressure pads and tunnels provide the entertainment here. Parents who don’t fancy getting wet can relax in the Village Square Café overlooking the water park.
Nearby you will find a small stage that hosts shows throughout the day. Storytellers, puppet performances and live music acts will keep the children entertained with lively reenactments of their favourite stories.
During the winter, skate along the outdoor trail through Storybook Valley, past characters from Wind in the Willows and other storybook favourites. Rental skates are available.
Storybook Gardens is open every day expect Monday. Hours of operation and the availability of some rides varies according to the season. Visit the attraction's website for the latest information. Children under two years of age get in for free and there is a discount for a family ticket.
Storybook Gardens is located a short drive southwest of central London.
