The museum takes its name from a collector who donated his works to the city of Hannover in 1969. The museum opened a decade later, blending his collection with other pieces belonging to the city and the state of Lower Saxony.
Visit the museum from morning until early evening Tuesday through Sunday. Enter for free on Fridays and pay a fee on other days. Children get in for free and students and groups have discounts.
The Sprengel Museum is just south of historic central Hannover at the northeastern corner of the vast Maschsee lake. Reach the museum via the Hannover Schlägerstraße stop on the U-Bahn.
