"The staff are friendly and helpful. The building is rather old but full of character and with a lovely decor. The hotel is just a few minutes' walk from the station, very convenient. One thing to be aware of is that they don't start serving breakfast until 8.30am – something to keep in mind if you're planning an early start. "

"We would definitely stay at the Loopy Shrew again. Great value for money. Our room and bathroom were very clean, quiet and comfortable. We heard nothing from the pub below. The location is great, with very short walks to beautiful areas of town. There was a lovely array of breakfast choices included for free with the room charge; we had vegetarian eggs Benedict, coffee/tea & juice. Our main suggestion is to provide a standing fan on warmer evenings. Also, the comfy duvet was just too hot so a...

"Very satisfied with our stay a fan was provided in the room with the weather being so warm, nothing was too much trouble, room cosy comfy bed and the pub just downstairs very handy, definitely be staying again."

"One of the cleanest and spacious hotels we have stayed in. Made to feel very welcome although arrived fairly late, food was available and William could not have been more helpful. Ryan the manager was very pleasant and helpful the hotel is a credit to him. Would highly recommend."

"We loved our stay at the Ancient Gatehouse. The room was lovely and looked out over the green in front of the Wells Cathedral. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the hotel has an excellent Italian restaurant, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before walking around the lovely town of Wells. Americans should know it is not air conditioned, but air conditioning is rare in the UK and Europe. There is a fan and lovely large windows. We will definitely return."

"This hotel is sort of country lodge chic, meets modern bathrooms. The customer service was great (even though they were sold out). A very central location so great for getting around, but obviously a bit noisy until the pubs close. I'd check the parking situation with them beforehand - I didn't and then ended up a bit away as I drove to the hotel and couldn't see it but there is a private carpark nearby. "
