Samae Beach is one of Koh Lan’s liveliest and most popular beaches. It sits on the island’s west coast overlooking the glorious and glistening water of the Bay of Bangkok. Samae Beach offers an ideal combination of relaxation, recreation, adventure and traditional Thai cuisine. The beach itself is an eye-catching sweep of soft white sand framed by forest-clad hills. Find numerous opportunities to rent sun lounges and umbrellas along the beach.
Be sure to take a revitalizing swim in the shallow, warm and crystal-clear water. Buoys mark a safe swimming area and separate bathers from the boats. Spot colourful fish swimming frantically on the seabed. Toward the southern end of the beach is a watersport’s centre. Explore the bay on a rented Jet Ski or join an exhilarating water-sled ride. Alternatively, rent an inflatable tube and float leisurely on the water.
If you are feeling energetic then follow the trails to the beach’s two viewpoints. At the southern edge of the bay a path leads through green hills to Khaoo Na Yok lookout. Marvel at the views back across the beach and of Pattaya’s coastline. On an exceptionally clear day it’s possible to see nearby Ko Phai (Bamboo Island). Enjoy similar views from a pergola accessed via a short trail at the northern end of the bay.
Samae Beach is about 10-minute drive from Na Baan Pier, which is the main ferry port on Koh Lan. Motorcycle taxis and baht buses (shared taxis) travel frequently between the beach and pier. They operate with fixed fares so there’s no need to bargain. Rent a scooter for the chance to discover other island attractions at your own pace. Among these are Nual Beach, Sangwan Beach and Ta-Yai Beach.
Thanks to Koh Lan’s impressive year-round climate, Samae Beach is a constant hive of activity. Several bars and restaurants line the beach, which serve tasty Thai cuisine. Sample classic dishes such as pad Thai, stir-fried rice noodles with garlic, tamarind and fish sauce.
