"Not been back home to Southport in twenty years. I wanted a hotel just off the beaten track. Leicester road, know it well. Service is all about time, skill and dedication and after a lifetime in catering. You get that at the Leicester hotel. Special thanks to the chef, great breakfast as I never got to thank you in person. Thanks for the coffee tip. Thank you great stay, all the best."

"When we arrived we were greeted as we parked up and our bags were taken to our room which was on the 2nd floor. The room was clean and fresh. We were given a time for breakfast with a variety of options. Food was delicious, hot and well presented. The owners were always available until 7pm and very helpful about where to go if eating out or wanting entertainment. We would definately recommend and stay again however as sisters in our 70's we would ask for a room on the lower floor."

"We were very pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Red Lion. We were in a family room which was large. The bathroom was big too. Bed linen and towels were excellent. There was plenty of tea and coffee in the room. We had dinner in the evening and the food was really good. The staff were all very friendly and the atmosphere in the pub was so comfortable. "This hotel is really great. It may look a bit tired from the outside but ince in through the doors the decoration, atmosphere and warmth of it and the staff would be hard to beat. The room we stsyed in was small but perfectly formed which was as expected due to the description when we booked and again decorated to a high standard. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was good."

"Beautiful hotel gorgeous food. The only downfall was that we were put in a room on the 3rd floor (beautiful room) which was facing a pub over the road and the music and shouting and singing from the pub lasted until about 3am in the morning, so we didn’t get much sleep. Overall stay was really lovely. "

"Ready at our ETA. Quick access (online check-in, key in door). Owner came to make sure we were OK, answered our questions, told us where he was (next door) in case we had a problem (we didn't). Didn't bother us again. We had the small Dairy Cottage - plenty of room for the two of us - but patio doors straight onto the big garden which the other cottages didn't seem to have. We sat outside a lot just having a cup of tea and looking around at greenery. It's hypnotic. We didn't want for anything. Every home comfort was provided. We had some nice walks but, if you're looking for food, turn right at the canal bridge towards Leo's. Turn left and you end up at a dismal pub that advertises food outside and inside but doesn't do it. We were told 'kitchen closed' at our lunchtime visit but reviews suggest it hasn't done food for a few years. My only suggestion for Martin Lane Holiday Cottages? Update the guest information folder. Otherwise an excellent short break and we would certainty go back."
