I only stayed one night, but it was perfect. The location is walking distance to the Black Sand beach and the unit we stayed in had a lovely patio with a view of the ocean. Everything was clean and the property was very quiet.

It's a beautiful place, gardens and flowering trees kept in immaculate condition. A really nice pool and jacuzzi, and an easy walk to the black sand beach. The staff are friendly and helpful and the apartment was great, well equipped with everything we needed including laundry. I definitely recommend Colony 1, and would love to stay here again.

Simply amazing condos - I was angry at myself for only booking one night there. I'd advise anyone staying on Big Island to use this as a base & just travel back and forth, as everything is close enough on the island. If I'm ever back again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here for 4 or 5 nights. Just two minor issues - there was a 2 hour power outage on the night & the resort didn’t communicate with guests at all to keep us informed. There's also a policy to charge $10 to use portable aircon units which is unnecessary.

Beautiful setting in a remote location. The condominium was very comfortable, almost like home. Wish we could have stayed longer. If you are going to stay at Colony I, do your grocery shopping before arriving. Closest grocery store is a 30 min. drive. Same with dining. Be mindful that there are few restaurants near the property, and after 6 PM it's a 30 min drive minimum.

General speaking, this hotel/resort is in very good condition. However, it's not good if you need to find a restaurant in a hurry as there is no one nearby. Another inconvenience is that we found out the hotel did not provide shampoo, conditioner or body wash even for short stay guests. You can buy a small package for $3 in the office but it's not open after hours.
