The impressive JR Central Towers loom 53 stories above Nagoya’s main railway station and have been a central feature of the expanding city since 1999. The tower complex occupies acres of space with shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and two panoramic observation decks.
Nagoya Station is one of the largest and busiest in the world and serves as the gateway to the city for thousands of visitors every day. The towers above the station are a destination in their own right. Ascend from the track and find yourself surrounded by some of Nagoya’s best shopping. Visit the popular Takashimaya shopping centre for flagship stores representing some of the world’s most coveted brands, such as Louis Vuitton and Jimmy Choo. Buy cosmetics from one of the largest ranges in the country or pick up exclusive items from Japanese designers.
Take the elevator to the Towers Plaza to find something to eat. Covering the 12th and 13th floors of the towers, the plaza is home to 40 restaurants and cafés serving Japanese and Western cuisine. Try traditional eel dishes or pick up some fresh sushi.
Make your way to the top of the towers for some of the best views in Nagoya. The Hotel Tower’s 52nd floor has a restaurant with stunning views. The 51st floor of the second tower is home to the Panorama Salon, a luxurious viewing experience complete with a day spa, a beauty salon and a wine lounge. Be sure to bring your camera, as the views are breathtaking.
The JR Central Towers are located in the heart of Nagoya and are best reached by train from anywhere in Japan. If you choose to drive, you’ll find some private parking lots in the area for a fee, but limited street parking. The towers are open daily and are free to visit.
