With exceptional views of the River Test, Mayflower Park is a lovely spot for a scenic and tranquil escape. Its café and children’s play area will keep the whole family entertained, between sessions of studying boats floating by on the water. Watch some of the iconic cruise liners departing from the adjacent port at the beginning of their voyages out to sea.
Among the most famous vessels that may pass by are the Queen Mary II and the Oriana. Sit on one of the riverside benches and study activity on the lively river. This is also an ideal spot for relaxing contemplation, meditation and yoga. Lay down a blanket to have a picnic with your family.
Watch your little ones frolic in the children’s playground and practice sports in the multi-use fields. In summer, you may find locals participating in a game of cricket or soccer. Sip hot drinks and purchase snacks from the café, while watching the games and the boats on the river.
Visit the park in September to catch the Southampton Boat Show, when some of the most majestic and impressive vessels in the United Kingdom create an impressive parade.
Various other events, including music concerts, circuses and fireworks shows, take place in this park. Celebrate the arrival and naming of a new ship from the park’s coastline. Embark on a cruise of your own from the adjacent Southampton Port.
Find Mayflower Park overlooking the water near the port, right in the core of Southampton. Arrive at Southampton Central Railway Station and walk south for about 20 minutes to get to the park. If you choose to drive, drop off your car in the site’s parking area. Book your lodgings in the area to be close to other intriguing sights such as the Quilter’s Vault, the Corner Tower and the Medieval Merchant’s House.
