The reception staff were so friendly and were able to help us with a few questions in English. They even gave us a mobile phone so we could call them from the cottage if required. "All the outdoor furniture (table and benches) on the terrace (including the wood deck) were completely covered in yellowish dusty pollen and had to be cleaned in order to be used. We sat down unknowingly and our clothes got really dirty from all the pollen. The rubber outdoor sandals were only one size and too small. I’m a womens US size 9 or 39 European size. I had enormous trouble signing into my YouTube account on the tv, which wasn’t the case last time I stayed at a different Rakuten stay...

"Stayed for three nights and wished we had booked longer. The best place we stayed in Japan. Room was spacious lots of room for a family of four. Staff was helpful and fridge was stocked with water and drinks. Great view. Location was perfect. Would stay again."

"Beautiful property right along the river with incredible service. The staff are very attentive and spoke fantastic english. Very nice, spacious rooms. We got to see the fire lighting ritual and had an amazing dinner. The only downside was the price of the dinner, it is not a cheap meal so make sure to check that it fits within your budget before ordering."

"Charming property exceptionally clean, special mention of the wonderful onsen, enjoyed our most unusual experience of sleeping in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats. Our dinner in the restaurant was superb, kudos to the skilled chef! Matsumoto is a lovely town with a slow paced vibe , so different from other Japanese cities."

"Very nice hotel with welcoming touch. Service at the desk was really nice, we enjoyed the complimentary drink. Huge breakfast selection. Well situated to walk around the city. Matsumoto is a charming city with great vibe. Should have stayed one more day."
