Enjoy the action and excitement of a soccer match and watch global superstars in concert at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha (National Stadium Mané Garrincha). The multipurpose arena can seat more than 70,000 spectators and is used for high profile matches by two of the city’s soccer clubs, Brasília FC and Legião FC.
The top sporting venue opened in 2013 and boasts many green credentials. It was constructed using materials from the previous demolished stadium and has thousands of solar panels on the roof. There is also a collection system that reuses rainwater in the toilets and for irrigation of the soccer field.
Upon your arrival, walk around the magnificent stadium to appreciate its architectural beauty. The standout features are the huge pillars on the façades that support the circular roof.
Take your seat for a match or a concert. There are three stands, lower, middle and upper, as well as hospitality boxes. If you really want to get close to the sporting action, book your seats for the front rows of the lower stand. They are approximately 24.5 feet (7.5 metres) away from the field of play.
Even if you don’t like sport, come for the carnival-like atmosphere. Brazilians are noted for their passion for soccer, and there is usually lots of flag waving, chanting and fans wearing painted faces and their team’s colours.
If live music is your thing, enjoy watching and listening to superstars in action. Among the performers to have taken to the stage here are Beyoncé, Sir Paul McCartney, Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith.
The Mané Garrincha Stadium is located west of Paranoá Lake, close to the city centre. On-site parking is available and there are also spaces for more than 3,000 bicycles. The Central metro station is about 1.2 miles (2 kilometres) away and buses from there connect with the stadium. Among the nearby popular attractions are City Park, the Cathedral of Brasília and the National Congress.
