"Soaking in the outside bath with a view of Mt. Fuji, eating above average meals are the highlights. The staff, what few of them there are, seem to play multiple roles and do not engage with the guests. There are foreign staff but little to no English is spoken. The staff don't seem to talk to each other when they are in view. Very cold atmosphere at check in and check out and that wasn't because of the weather ! The service was just so lacking ! "What an amazing ryokan with such supportive staff and amazing chef! Their gardens are magical and their rooms are super modern, clean and authentic to traditional ryokans. Loved our stay and loved the proximity to Shuzenji’s main village. A hidden gem in the Izu prefecture. Highly recommended!"

"The room was beautiful with a patio that overlooked the lush hillside. The dining area was pleasant and the food was good. The onsen, however, could stand some refurbishment. The hotel advertises late checkout but I was told that 11:00 am constitutes late checkout. This seems like a bit of a scam to me. Made my departure more rushed than a I planned for it to be."

"We paid a good price for this hotel during golden week and it was much more affordable than other options. The property is well located right in front of the tombolo and less than a 10 minute walk to the local shop/restaurants so we were pleased. There’s a public onsen at the hotel which is the main attraction but we opted to pay 3000 yen for 45 minutes in the private onsen which was nice. The hotel was built in the 60s and hasn’t been updated since so if you want somewhere with all the mod cons...
