Mussel fishing has long been an important source of income for Løgstør. The mussels caught in Limfjorden are considered some of the best in the world, so make sure to sample some during your stay in Løgstør (often rightfully called “mussel town”). You will find imaginative menus in the town's many high-quality restaurants.
The Mussel Harvest Celebration is held every April, when the very first mussels are brought ashore, followed by the Mussel Festival later in July. The vibrant and atmospheric Løgstør Harbour is also host to many other activities, including free concerts, with numerous musical events held in Løgstør over the course of the summer. Løgstør offers many shopping opportunities – and don't forget to have a look in some of the town's many galleries.
At the Limfjord Museum on the outskirts of Løgstør you can discover old-time fishing equipment and hear the history of Limfjorden there are many activities for the kids as well. Don't forget to take a boat tour on Limfjorden, whether in a little rowing boat you can take out yourself, or on a guided sailing tour. Also make sure you visit Løgstør Church, dating from 1893, which underwent extensive interior renovation in the 1990s. The church space resulting from these efforts deserves a close-up look.
One way to experience the west Himmerland landscape is to walk or cycle along the Himmerland Path, which stretches over 40 miles. It's an exciting path laid out along a former railway between Løgstør and Viborg. There is great variety to the nature along the path, and the tour can also be made on horseback, if you find the opportunity to do so. The area around Løgstør also offers several fine golf courses.
If you are driving during your holiday in Løgstør, it takes about an hour to get to Aalborg International Airport. There are good bus connections to Aalborg and other towns and attractions in the area south of Limfjorden. Take a moment to admire the mussel sculptures during your travels through Løgstør.
