Johnny Cash Museum

Johnny Cash Museum

Discover hundreds of original artifacts that retrace the life and career of one of the Music City’s most celebrated recording artists.

Visit the Johnny Cash Museum to delve into the life of a legendary country singer-songwriter, actor and author. The museum chronicles the life of Johnny Cash from his early childhood to international stardom and his final years. Browse a treasure trove of Cash’s personal items, awards and instruments. The Johnny Cash Museum opened in 2013 and in the same year was ranked among Nashville’s must-see attractions by both Forbes and National Geographic.

Exhibited here is a collection of family photos and Cash’s U.S. Air Force uniform, which he wore during his enlistment from 1950 to 1954. View an entire wall decorated with the sleeves of 96 albums that featured his original songs. See examples of the singer’s stage outfits, most notably those that coined the nickname, the “Man in Black.” Find some of the many guitars Cash played, in addition to handwritten lyrics and letters.

Peruse posters from some of the thousands of concerts performed by the virtuoso. See tin cups from Folsom Prison, where he recorded a live album. Watch excerpts from his television series, The Johnny Cash Show. Here he interviewed and sang with fellow musicians such as Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. View clips of Cash’s renowned performances, including for the U.S. Bicentennial celebration.

Purchase authentic and officially licensed merchandise at the museum shop. Find everything from playing cards and T-shirts to key chains, posters and mugs. True Johnny Cash fans might like to host a private party in the museum’s events center.

The museum is in the heart of Downtown Nashville. Public buses stop on Broadway, just a short walk away. The Music City Star Riverfront Station is only about 5 minutes away by foot. Nearby are several of Nashville’s many music-related attractions. Among these are the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, Music City Walk of Fame Park and Nashville Symphony Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

The Johnny Cash Museum is open daily, except for select public holidays, and has an admission fee. Purchase tickets online in advance or at the museum’s entrance. Visit the museum’s official website for further information.
