Everything was great till we arrived for breakfast the next morning at 7:00.after a staff member confirmed that breakfast will be at 7:00. There were no one..we eventually went to the kitchen and started calling staff. And we were still being ignored..no coffee. We eventually had to leave at 7:30 without any breakfast and up till then none of the staff members even attemptedto talk to us...in order to be in time for our meeting. This doesn’t sit well with us...especially not after payng R5000 for one nights accommodation
Reception very well. Service at the bar very poor at first, but after complaining improved substantially. A pity that we had to complain before we were afforded the service we deserve. I have observed a shortage of staff, lack of supervision and training. The rooms airconditioning malfunctioned. Other than that the hotels surroundings and food were great.
We have stayed here before a couple of times, but the standard was just not what we received the last times. They are very understaffed and our meals took hours to get food. We had to ask for our food the whole time and no one checked up on us. Our room was also not in the best condition - there were spider webs on the door and the toilet flush broken. I understand that they were closed for a long time due to Covid, bit its important to maintain the standards.
We had a wonderful stay at De Hoek for our second wedding anniversary. The staff is very friend and helpful. This was our second stay with them and we will be back!
Enjoyed excellent service, lovely well appointed room, with well kept and tranquil grounds. The staff were very friendly and helpful and readily accommodated our requests in terms of dietary requirements - will certainly be looking to go back
Our stay was extremely disappointing to say the least. Hardly a five star experience. Noise from the brewery caused us to ask for a new room. Second room had a bathroom that smelled of urine so moved to a third room. The reception misplaced our luggage so had to wait 45 minutes for it to be located. Food was average. Spa was average. No water after treatments. I could go on but the overall stay was so disappointing and it was to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Never again!
What has always been exceptional is unfortunately showing some chinks in the armour. The room was slightly tired and in need of some attention whilst the service at the restaurant was average at best. The setting remains fantastic but as far as value for money goes, there’s better 5 star options.
This is a beautiful hotel situated amoungst mature gardens and extensive grounds. The main hotel is in the style of an old English manor. The bedrooms are very comfortable and clean and have all amenities, including large bathroom, small hallway, coffee/tea makers etc. This hotel is perfect for a weekend away or to stay over when attending a wedding in many of the venues near by. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The check in, check out process is v.slow and could do with improvement (and they could not find my hotels.com payment, first time that has happened to me in all my years of using hotels.com)
The setting is brilliant, a private, calm ecperience away from the city. The staff were very courteous and always available. The room was fantastic and the lush green, picturesque setting made the early morning walks really nice. This a place to return.

Stay was very good. Room was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner options restricted to a set menu only, which i think was a bit overpriced. would also have liked some background music in the restaurant and lobby. Overall a great stay.
It was amazing, from the General Manager and all the staff right up to the garden maintenance crew were friendly, courteous and expressed a willingness to go the extra mile no matter what the request. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a well deserved break.
We had a lovely stay at De Hoek. All staff, including the General Manager, were there to make you feel at home. Superb dining and lovely spread of English breakfast. The warm fireplaces, and the tranquillity of the venue were perfect for a couples weekend away. The only less positive experience was the Spa: relook the ambience, including music; and make sure the beauticians know what "medium pressure" is :-). Overall a lovely and relaxing weekend.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
A bit stale and boring, could do with some better evening entertainment. The food was ok, but not amazing
Beautiful, feelings of going back in time and that nothing is a problem and can be done.
We loved our stay.
The only disappointing thing of our visit was finding out once we sat down on the Sunday evening for 4 course dinner that the menu was exactly the same as the 4 course lunch menu we had had earlier for lunch....not ideal as De Hoek prides itself on its food. If we had known that we would rather have had the high tea in the afternoon...if it was not for this experience which disappointed us on our last evening I would have rated a 5*.
