Since the early 1960s, Fremont Central Park has provided locals with 180 hectares of green space in which to relax and let off steam.
A favourite local pastime is to go early morning jogging around Fremont Central Park's paths. This is a great way of becoming acquainted with the area, and to witness it when it’s relatively quiet. Dog owners are provided with designated off-leash areas. Come later in the day, and use the barbecue facilities or sit under the shade of a tree at one of the drop-in picnic sites.
Children will be in their element at Fremont Central Park get them to feed the geese and ducks which waddle round the paths. Let them loose in one of the four playgrounds. Play ball games or Frisbee on the park's spacious grassy areas. Hire a boat and take them out onto Lake Elizabeth, which covers 34 hectares of the park. The Aqua Adventure Water Park provides further water-based frolics (there is an entrance fee for this).
Fremont Central Park caters well for sports enthusiasts. There are tennis courts, football pitches and basketball courts are dotted around. There's also a golfing range where you can work on your drive. Fishing can be done on Lake Elizabeth.
For the ultimate peaceful experience, head to the Stivers Lagoon Nature Area with a pair of binoculars and watch the local wildlife. Close to Fremont Central Park there are a number of shopping plazas and retail centres these are ideal for picking up something delicious for a picnic and sports equipment.
Fremont Central Park is located in the bayside city of Fremont, about 30 kilometres from the centre of San Jose. The park is open during the day, every day, with most facilities closing at dusk.
