"We added a trip to stay at Lumley Castle at the end of our Scotland trip because of the similarity to our last name. I'm so glad we did. We stayed in a State Bedroom in the Castle. Because they had no events scheduled for the night we were there we were allowed to explore. It is so well preserved. It was a magical place. "Good start with friendly reception staff, but the room was like a prison cell: one strip flourescent light, wood-chip walls, saggy mattress. I know you get what you pay for, & I already knew the room did not have a private bathroom, but it was very bleak and very disappointing. I would not recommend unless desperate."

"The room was quiet and small, but not uncomfortable. Given that there is a bar scene outside the hotel, I was grateful for how tranquil the room was, as it faced the back of the property rather than the street front. The only problems with the room were: 1. Shower curtain needed a proper cleaning to remove some traces of mold and a lot of soap residue at the bottom. This should be done every time a guest quits the property. 2. Plaster, drywall and grout in the bathroom and the main room need...
