Disliked: Amenities
I have visited Dakar on a number of occasions and had always wanted to spend more time along this beautiful corniche with its views of the ocean and Gorée island in the distance. The Hotel Jardin Savana more than met my expectations with its gracious and helpful staff, spacious rooms and well maintained furnishings. The design of the building seems to mimic the architecture of the slave fort at Gorée, which was alarming. But it really is quite grand and beautiful with large circular exterior staircases. My room had a balcony overlooking the large Olympic sized swimming pool and the ocean just beyond it. The room amenities (soap, shampoo, bath gel) are modest but sufficient. There was an espresso machine in the room.
The daily room cleaning, with fresh towels and sheets, was very much appreciated. And the air conditioning worked well.
The somewhat weak link was the food at the two hotel restaurants. Though they both have spectacular views, the quality of food and the preparation was less than I had hoped for. There are very good restaurants nearby with better prepared food, similar views and excellent service.
That said, I would happily return to the Hotel Jardin Savana.
