Chung Yuan University (officially Chung Yuan Christian University) is an institute of higher education in Taoyuan City. Established in 1955, it provides education in multiple fields, such as business, law and science, to around16,000 students. Experience a day in the life of students and professors at Chung Yuan University by exploring a modern and leafy campus. See award-winning buildings and visit religious landmarks.
An arched gateway marks the southwestern entrance to the campus. From here, cobblestone streets lead past decorative gardens and lawns used for recreational purposes. You’ll see students moving between the college buildings and residential halls, people jogging and visitors snapping photographs. Look for a bell tower, made from concrete pillars and crowned by a cross.
Among the most striking campus buildings is the Chang Ching Yu Memorial Library, the recipient of two major architecture awards. Adjacent to here is a park with benches shaped in the form of a Christian cross. Attend a mass service at the Grace and Mercy Baptist Church. Watch athletics events and soccer matches at the sports park.
New Chung Pei Road cuts through the middle of the campus and is a great place to mingle with students at bars and restaurants. Find everything from cafés serving typical Asian breakfast to coffeehouses, fast food joints, dumpling and noodle bars.
Located in the heart of the Zhongli (or Jungli) neighborhood, Chung Yuan University is a 20-minute drive from Taoyuan District. Public buses stop on the streets that surround the campus. Drivers can use the metered car parks.
The best time to visit Chung Yuan University is during the academic year, which runs from September to June. Other major attractions of the Zhongli district are a short walk away such as Chung Yuan Night Market, famous for its street food and fashion outlets. Admire cherry trees at Juguang Park and visit Zhongli Arts Hall, which hosts art exhibitions and concerts.
