The peak season in Sharm el-Sheikh lasts all the way from April through to October – although the heat may be a bit much for some between June and August.

Between November and February the weather remains warm but this is the rainy season, so downpours are to be expected. Sharm El Sheikh International Airport is the third-busiest airport in Egypt after Cairo International Airport and Hurghada International Airport. .

The airport is just ten miles northeast of the city, and there are three transport options for onward travel. Taxis are readily available from the airport – you should set the price before heading off. Minibuses can be found outside Terminal 1 – pay as you board and let the driver know where you want to get off. Finally, car rental is available but driving conditions in Egypt can be tough going so, unless you have driven here before, this is not advised.

What are the must-sees in Sharm el Sheikh?

Where Sharm actually ends and Na'ama begins is anyone's guess but, if you head about five miles away from the port, the bars are swankier, the beach prettier and the facilities much better. What's more dive sites are still within walking distance.

A further seven miles up the coast will bring you to the relative peace and quiet of Shark Bay. Things are quieter here so it will suit those who want to relax rather than party.

The coolest spots, however, for young tourists can be found in the bars and cafes that line the beach at Dahab, about 70 miles away. World famous dive sites fringe the waters here, including the Canyon and the Blue Hole, and the nights are as lively as the marine life under the waters.
