Cheap Flights to Berlin

The German capital of Berlin offers an immensely rich history that encompasses the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie and the ornate finery of the Brandenburg Gate. Yet, it is very much a living city, whose cafes are crammed, whose nightlife never stops and whose cultural scene is never less than cutting edge.

So, whether you are here to enjoy the vibrant buzz or soak in the cultural treasures there’s going to be plenty to keep you happy.

And you’ll be happier still if you can get yourself some cheap flight tickets to Berlin. Let’s show you how.

When to book cheap flights to Berlin

The best deals tend to be available in winter – between November and March – and you’ll also be able to explore its Christmas markets during December.

June sees some great weather in Berlin and the Carnival of Culture, a celebration of ethnic diversity that offers a riot of colour and spectacle. The warmest months are July and August, but these are also Berlin’s wettest months, so do pack a brolly!

Berlin’s airports

Berlin is serviced by two airports: Tegel is five miles to the west of the city and Schonefeld is 11 miles to the east.

Check to see if you can find a cheaper flight ticket to Berlin at either one, as they are both very well-served by public transport and within easy reach of the central district of Mitte.

From either you should be able to arrive by train or bus into the heart of Berlin within half an hour. From Schonefeld there are six S-Bahn trains every hour, and Tegel is served by a number of express bus services that can drop you in Alexanderplatz.

If you are hiring a car from the airport in Berlin it should take no more than 40 minutes from either airport to drive the well signposted route.

How to get around in Berlin

Berlin is served by an excellent network of U-Bahn (underground) and S-Bahn (light rail) trains, as well as buses and trams.

The U-Bahn and the S-Bahn are the most efficient ways of getting around. To save money, if you are taking more than two trips a day, it is always cheaper to buy a day pass (Tageskarte).

Hidden Berlin: unmissable attractions often missed

Berlin offers so much to see and do, but beyond the usual attractions here are a handful of hidden gems we suggest you seek out.

The breakfast of champions

The impressive glass dome walkway of the Reichstag is amazing, but it can be a real hassle to get to see. Unless, that is, you book breakfast at the restaurant right next to its glass dome. The restaurant Kafer offers panoramic views over the city and the iconic glass dome – and serves a great frühstück with a tour of the dome thrown in.

The bathing ship

Badeschiff is a “bathing ship” on the River Spree in Treptow. It’s a floating pool, sauna and bar offering tranquillity and great city views. Visit at night for the ultimate chill out before you hit the vibrant Berlin club and bar scene.

Fun with the kids

To keep the little ones happy you can do a lot worse than head to the Legoland Discovery Centre for some indoor fun with everyone’s favourite building blocks. The city’s parks are perfect too: try Park am Gleisdreieck, where fun zones, adventure playgrounds, basketball courts, skate parks and nature gardens can all be found, or at Kollwitzplatz there are three playgrounds aimed at different ages.
