A diverse array of attractions and entertainment venues makes this beautifully renovated waterfront one of the city's most frequented areas.

Formerly a significant trading dock, Inner Harbour is now a thriving, picturesque seafront. With a wide variety of attractions, dining experiences and cultural amenities, it is no surprise that it has grown to become one of the city's most popular tourist destinations.

Historically rich, Inner Harbour was once a major national port serving as a trading port for both national and international ships since the 18th century. However, the economic collapse of the 1950s put a stop to this commercial activity and soon after, Inner Harbour became a destitute wasteland. Thankfully, it wasn't long before renovation plans were put in place and the harbour was given a complete overhaul. Shopping centres, hotels, businesses and museums gave the harbour a new lease of life.

One of the beauties of Inner Harbour is that all attractions are within walking distance. Pathways and cultivated greenery make for a very pleasant stroll by the port. Over at the National Aquarium you will find more than 16,000 sea creatures, dolphin shows and a giant rain forest. Bring your camera and head up to the 27th floor of the Baltimore World Trade Centre. Here you can take pictures of the breathtaking 360-degree views of the harbour and beyond.

If you fancy a spot of lunch or you'd like to hit the shops, a trip to Harborplace and The Gallery is a must. Over 120 shops and restaurants ensure every taste is catered for. Make sure you check out the open-air amphitheatre which hosts live entertainment during the summer months.

Visit the Maryland Science Centre, which boasts its very own planetarium, or Port Discovery Children's Museum, which is great for the kids. If you visit the Maritime Museum, you will get a reduced entry price to the "USS Constellation", the last remaining floating Civil War ship today.

Inner Harbour is located in central Baltimore. The Charm City Circulator shuttle bus provides a free service, departing from 4 designated spots every 15 minutes. Parking is not free. Water taxis are a novel way to explore the harbour and all stops are signposted. Baltimore Visitor Centre offers a three-day pass, which allows for discounted entry to various attractions and events.
