The historic palace of the Cozza Caposavi counts of Bolsena opens its sale rich in history and art to the public. More than a thousand square metres that can be visited with a guide, including Renaissance paintings, ceramics, ancient fabrics and frescoes. The palace periodically displays private collections of ancient and contemporary art.
500 YEARS OF HISTORY
Located in the square in the historic centre of Bolsena, 550 metres from the lake, the VesConte is a period residence located in the historic 16th century palace of the Counts Cozza Caposavi and over the centuries has hosted various members of the European royal families, two Popes, and among the most important writers and cinema characters passing through northern Lazio.
The position, on the ancient via francigena and the imperial road Cassia, made Bolsena an obligatory stop for travellers between Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio.
Travelling along the ancient road that connects Orvieto with the Cassia through the Umbrian countryside, you come across the impressive size of an enormous volcanic basin where - in the Palaeolithic period - a wonderful lake was formed, surrounded by green hills.north of the lake is the city of Bolsena from which the lake also takes its name.
This suggestive and charming medieval village influenced by Etruscan and then Roman settlements, began to grow in the XIII century and remained an area of strategic and commercial importance for over 400 years.
