Overview

After visiting Masoala and Nosy Mangabe, most of people are worrying about their domestic flight. Why not travelling with us? We will take you along the RN5 that connects Maroantsetra, Mananara to Toamasina by 4x4. This is a tough road for the driver but full of experience for travellers. We dedicate one full day in Mananara to explore the city, sightseeing at Ambitsika and visit the island of Aye Aye. This is the best place to spot the strange looking lemurs in their natural habitat. The road goes up and down rocky hills between Mananara and Antanambe. However, you will enjoy the scenery with nice view to the Nosy Atafana and the indian Ocean. Located in the region of Analanjirofo (litt. the forest of Cloves”), this is the road of vanilla. Indeed, the best quality of vanilla comes from Maroantsetra and Mananara.

PS: This is only for adventurers. This tour is operated with a Toyota Hilux No AC. The daily steps may change due to the circumstance.

Rantabe

Departure from Maroantsetra preferably before 7:00AM after breakfast at your hotel on your charge. Short stop in Rantabe village. You may visit a Quartz Shop and visit local market. After Rantabe, you will enjoy the typical life at some village like Manambolosy, Fontsimaro, Fahambahy. According to the season, the forest smells cloves and the villages smells vanilla. Remember that it is prohibited to ask at what time you may arrive as it will be a source of bad luck according to the local belief. You will arrive when you arrive an it could be in afternoon or late in evening.

Ambitsika

Relax day in Mananara : It starts with a local tour at the market, visit some vanilla and cloves warehouse if you will be there during the season. Afternoon relax on the beach at Ambitsika. Around 4PM, departure to the small island called "ilôt Roger" (litt. Roger's island) for the nightwalk to see the aye-aye. Back to the hotel in evening.
Day 3: Mananara - Antanambe

Sahasoa

Early departure from Mananara. Tough road up and down hills. A real challenge for the driver and a good experience for you. The road snakes up and down hills with some nice view to the indian ocean. The Nosy Atafana island is surrounded by blue sea that makes it a nice place for snorkelling and diving. You can keep driving or organise a boat transfer from Sahasoa to Antanambe with a possibility to visit the Nosy Atafana in this afternoon.
Day 4: Antanambe - Mahambo

Manompana

Visit of Manompana village which is one of the best spot to discover along the RN5. The shallow and clean protected reef is surrounded by coconut trees that makes it a very nice postcard. Continuation to Mahambo.
Day 5: Mahambo - Toamasina

On this last day, you can choose between : 1. Drive from Mahambo to Toamasina with a break in Foulpointe. Activity is not included. 2. or take a boat from Mahambo to Sainte Marie. ATTENTION!!! Sometimes the departure with the boat El Condor is cancelled and you should drive back to Soanierana Ivongo to take other daily boat transfer. Let us know in advance if you want to go to Sainte Marie at the end of the trip and we will help you to arrange the boat transfer if needed.
