What you can expect

Nothing is absolute.
Everything changes,
everything moves,
everything is stirred,
everything flies and goes.
-Frida Kahlo

Located on London Street in Coyoacán, one of the most beautiful and oldest areas in Mexico City, the Blue House was converted into a museum in 1958, four years after the death of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Competing only with the National Museum of Anthropology, it is one of the most visited museums in Mexico City.

It was the painter's family home, where she spent her childhood and where she lived the last years of her life. Currently it is the place where personal objects reveal the intimate universe of the most globally recognised Latin American artist. In this place are the works Viva la Vida (1954), Frida and the Caesarean Section (1931), Portrait of my Father Wilhem Kahlo (1952), among others.

It was a meeting point for many great personalities of the time such as León Trotsky, Henry Moore, Remedios Varo, and André Breton.

The house as a museum

When you deepen your knowledge of Frida Kahlo's work and have the privilege of visiting her home, you discover the intense relationship that exists between Frida, her work and her home. Although the largest collection of his works is located in the Dolores Olmedo Museum, his creative universe is found in the Casa Azul, where he was born and died. Although when she married Diego Rivera she lived in different places in Mexico City and abroad, Frida always returned to her house in Coyoacán.

The museum has various discounts and special rates for teachers, students and people with INAPAM credentials, as well as workshops designed especially for girls and boys so that, in an educational way and thanks to special materials, children understand the world in which they live. the painter lived and why her art is one of the great contributions to Mexican culture.

If photographing the museum is required, a special permit must be acquired.

Prices vary depending on the day of the week and between residents and foreigners. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance due to the high attendance at the museum.

It is advisable to take advantage of the visit to the museum with a visit to the centre of Coyoacán and the market, since they are very close.
