Overview

The Alhambra, a Muslim Hispanic city, stands as one of the most impressive examples of Nasrid architecture and art in Spain. Located on the hill of the Sabika in a magical environment that attracts 2.7 million visitors every year.

The Generalife Gardens and its summer palace are adjacent to the Alhambra, and is one of the best preserved examples of Almunia in the Iberian Peninsula.

Built in the 13th century by the Nasrids, the Alhambra served not only as a royal residence, but also as a symbol of the power and wealth of the Kingdom of Granada. The word “Alhambra” comes from the Arabic “Qalat al-Hamra”, meaning “red castle”. Over the years, the complex has undergone several transformations, especially after the conquest of the Catholic Monarchs in 1492.

Activity itinerary

Generalife
  • 40m
  • Admission ticket included
The Generalife, a splendid example of almunia surrounded by Europe’s oldest orchard still in production, is a space that evokes the rich history of the Al-Andalus. Its name, a fusion of the Arabic words “yanat” — meaning garden or paradise — and “alarif” — which translates as architect — resonates with the essence of this enchanted place. Spanning 6 hectares, Generalife is not only a garden, but also a symbol of the fusion of art and nature, where every corner seems to tell a storey. This stunning summer palace witnessed significant events, lavish ceremonies and the holy month of Ramadan, crucial moments that marked the time of the Nasrid Sultans. Each season offers a visual spectacle, from the explosion of colours in spring to the serenity of winter, keeping alive the agricultural tradition that has endured over the centuries.
Alhambra
  • 15m
From the hill of Generalife, we will enter inside the walls of the Alhambra by the New Bridge, crossing the Medina where the bulk of the population lived inside the Palatine city. This part was greatly affected by the explosions of Napoleon's troops during the War of Independence in the early 19th century. Remains of the workshops and ovens that existed in the Middle Ages have arrived today. We will walk past the Seven Floor Gate, which was one of the main entrances to the city.
Palacio El Partal
  • 15m
  • Admission ticket included
Its construction was ordered by Sultan Muhammad III and its name comes from the Arabic term "partial" meaning "portico". Since its origins, the Partal has been a place of contemplation and rest. Built in the 13th century during the reign of the Nasrid dynasty, this space was designed with nature and architecture in mind. Its gardens, adorned with fountains, ponds and lush vegetation, evoke the aesthetics of Islamic gardens, where water plays a fundamental role. One of the highlights of the Partal is its famous pond, which perfectly reflects the beauty of the Portico and the city of pomegranate behind.
Palace of Carlos V
  • 10m
A Renaissance gem and one of the most imposing Palaces in Spain. Conducted during the 16th century on the occasion of the visit of Emperor Charles V. We will discover its inner courtyard with 64 columns made of a natural conglomerate.
Puerta del Vino
  • 5m
A monumental gate whose function was the separation of the people of power and the people within the Medina
Alcazaba
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
The oldest part of the red city. Built during the time of Mohamad I in the early 13th century. From its towers we will admire the city of Granada with an eagle view: the Realejo, centre, Albaicín and Sacromonte.
