What you can expect

Live to the extreme with this exhilarating hiking tour up one of Southern Iceland's most majestic features, the mighty Sólheimajökull glacier. This tour is the perfect holiday opportunity for those travellers seeking to mesh incredible natural landscapes with the thrill of adventure.

At the car park of Sólheimajökull glacier, you will be introduced to your highly trained guide for the day who will proceed to lead you on a brisk 15 minutes walk to the glacier.

On the way you will get a chance to see a glacier lagoon, which was formed from the melting ice. It is also pretty common to see huge chunks of icebergs floating in the lagoon, if winds do not push them into the Atlantic Ocean.

Once we reach the glacier, we will stop to gear up (crampons, ixe axes, and helmets are provided). We will then start our hike onto one of Iceland’s most panoramic glaciers. We will be greeted by scenic crevasses, which are huge cracks on a glacier caused by movement of different blocks of ice.

If you prefer to be picked up in Reykjavík, you can book a sightseeing day tour that includes a glacier hike here: South Coast & Glacier Hiking on Solheimajokull from Reykjavik.
